Vaivre-et-Montoille is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the Vesoul agglomeration.

geography

Vaivre-et-Montoille is located at an altitude of 223 m above sea level, about four kilometers west of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, in the Vesoul basin on the southern edge of the broad valley of the Durgeon , at the northern foot of the Camp de César plateau .

The area of the 8.48 km ² municipality includes a section in the area of the Vesoul basin. The northern border runs in the middle of the alluvial plain of the Durgeon, which provides drainage to the west to the Saône . The plain is on average 215 m and has a width of around four kilometers. On this level is the Lac de Vaivre, a 93 hectare lake created in 1973. From the valley level, the community area extends southward over a 150 m high, steep, wooded slope to the plateau of Camp de César and Bois de Noidans. The municipal boundary is on the upper edge of this steep slope, which is characterized in several places by rocky outcrops and protrusions of the resistant limestone. At 380 m, the highest point of Vaivre-et-Montoille is reached on the edge of Camp de César. While calcareous and sandy-marl-like sediments from the lower Jurassic period (Lias) emerge on the lower slope , the plateau consists of limestone from the middle Jurassic period.

The double municipality consists of the villages Vaivre (224 m) at the north foot of Camp de César and Montoille (215 m) in the plain of Durgeon west of Lac de Vaivre. Neighboring municipalities of Vaivre-et-Montoille are Grattery and Pusey in the north, Vesoul in the east, Noidans-lès-Vesoul and Chariez in the south and Montigny-lès-Vesoul in the west.

history

Vaivre is mentioned for the first time in 1143. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The local rule was held by the noble family von Vaivre, whose existence is documented from the 12th to the 17th century. In 1674 the sovereignty passed to the French king. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Montoille belonged to the Templar Order of Sales. The area changed in 1807, when Montoille (1806: 209 inhabitants) and Vaivre merged to form today's double municipality. Today Vaivre-et-Montoille is a member of the 19 localities community association Communauté de communes de l'agglomération de Vesoul .

Attractions

The church of Saint-Christophe was largely rebuilt from 1738 to 1771, whereby the choir from the 12th century and a side chapel from the 16th century of the previous building were integrated. It houses rich furnishings , including the baroque main altar (end of the 17th century) as well as numerous statues and tombstones. Two stone wayside crosses are dated 1633 and 1733.

The Mairie (local government) is housed in a large house belonging to the Seguin de Jallerange from the 18th century. The old town center of Vaivre is characterized by houses from the 17th century, which show the traditional style of the Haute-Saône.

During this time the number of inhabitants has more than quadrupled. However, a downward trend has been observed again in recent years. The settlement area of Vaivre-et-Montoille has grown together almost completely today with those of Vesoul and Noidans-lès-Vesoul.

Economy and Infrastructure

Vaivre-et-Montoille was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) until the 20th century. Since the 1970s, a commercial and industrial zone has developed in the east of the municipality on the border with Noidans-lès-Vesoul. The most important employer is the Peugeot factory, which has settled here. There are also numerous smaller companies in the precision mechanics, wood processing, construction and electronics industries, as well as various retail businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the other villages of the Vesoul agglomeration.

The Lac de Vesoul-Vaivre serves as a local recreation area for the Vesoul agglomeration. The Ludolac recreational sports center, which opened in 2008, is located on its banks with swimming pools and a water slide. Other water sports such as sailing, boating and fishing are also offered.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is connected to the national road network with the main roads N19 ( Belfort - Vesoul - Langres ) and N57 (Vesoul - Besançon ). Other road links exist with Fresne-Saint-Mamès and Pusey. The railway line from Vesoul to Langres runs through Vaivre. The industrial zone is accessed by a freight station. Vaivre and Montoille are connected to the city of Vesoul by a bus line.
