geography

Liévans is located at an altitude of 305 m above sea level, about 14 kilometers east of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, slightly elevated south of the Lauzin lowland, north of the summit of Mont Moiran.

The area of the municipal area of 4.16 km² covers a section in the undulating landscape between the basin of Vesoul in the west and the plain of Lure in the east. The area is bordered in the west and north by the lowland of the Lauzin , which rises on Mont Moiran. To the north of Liévans, the stream enters an alluvial lowland , which is 290 m on average. It has a maximum width of one kilometer. The forest of the Bois de Montoille north of the valley basin is also part of Liévans.

To the south, the community area extends over the lowlands of the village stream Ruisseau des Grands Prés to the heights around Liévans: Rougeley (340 m) and La Côte (326 m). The area is mainly used for agriculture, but there are also some smaller forest areas, including Bois de Rouvroy and Bois de Chassagne (on the eastern border). At 370 m, the highest point in Liévans is reached on the northern slope of Mont Moiran. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the terrain consists mainly of alternating layers of sandy-marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). The Mont Moiran is made up of a resistant limestone layer from the middle Jurassic period .

Neighboring municipalities of Liévans are Pomoy and Mollans in the north, Montjustin-et-Velotte in the east, Autrey-lès-Cerre in the south and Noroy-le-Bourg and Calmoutier in the west.

history

Liévans was first mentioned in a document in 1262. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The priory of Calmoutier held local rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Liévans is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Grands Bois, comprising 12 localities .

Attractions

The village church of Liévans was built in the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style. In the center and at the four exits are Calvaires . The town center is characterized by various houses from the 17th and 18th centuries that show the traditional style of the Haute-Saône.

Economy and Infrastructure

Liévans is still a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the Vesoul agglomeration.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Frotey-lès-Vesoul to Mollans. Other road connections exist with Pomoy, Montjustin and Autrey-lès-Cerre.
