La Résie-Saint-Martin is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

La Résie-Saint-Martin is located at an altitude of 221 m above sea level, five kilometers northeast of Pesmes and about 33 kilometers west of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, east of the Saône plain on the village stream Ruisseau de Sainte-Cécile, on the eastern edge of the Gros Bois.

The area of ​​the 3.27 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating landscape between the valley plains of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. The area is occupied by a plateau that averages 230 m. It is made up of tertiary sediments and is mainly used for agriculture. In the west, the municipal area extends into the extensive forest area of ​​the Gros Bois. At 243 m, the highest point of La Résie-Saint-Martin is reached on a hill east of the village. The area is drained by the Ruisseau de Sainte-Cécile, which rises near the village and provides drainage to the north via the Résie to the Ognon.

Neighboring municipalities of La Résie-Saint-Martin are Valay in the north, Chaumercenne in the east and Pesmes in the south and west.

history

In the Middle Ages, La Résie-Saint-Martin belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rulership was held by the Lords of Pesmes. Through a donation in 1312, the Johanniterkommende of Montseugny also came into possession of land in what is now the municipality. Together with Franche-Comté , La Résie-Saint-Martin finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today, La Résie-Saint-Martin is a member of the Communauté de communes du Val de Pesmes, which comprises 18 villages .

Attractions

The village church of La Résie-Saint-Martin was rebuilt in the 18th century. In the cemetery there is a wooden crucifix from the 16th century. A wayside cross in the village dates from 1767. Also worth seeing is the lavoir, the roof of which is supported by six columns; it was once used as a wash house and cattle trough.

With 158 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), La Résie-Saint-Martin is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (203 people were still counted in 1886), only slight fluctuations were recorded in the last few decades.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, La Résie-Saint-Martin was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Chaumercenne to Vadans . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 18 km away. There are other road links with Valay and Sauvigney-lès-Pesmes.
