Oyrières is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Oyrières is located at an altitude of 212 m above sea level, ten kilometers north of Gray and about 45 kilometers northeast of the city of Dijon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the extreme west of the department, in the gently undulating landscape between the river valleys of Saône in the east and Vingeanne in the west, in the lowland of the Ruisseau des Écoulottes.

The area of 14.03 km² large municipal area includes a section in the area of the plateau north of the plain of Gray. From north to south, the area is crossed by the wide valley low of the Ruisseau des Écoulottes (eastern source stream), which provides drainage to the Saône. The valley floodplain lies at an average of 210 m and used to form a moorland.

The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau that reaches a height of about 240 m. It is divided by various hollows that open to the Ruisseau des Écoulottes. The plateau consists of alternating layers of calcareous and sandy-marly sediments from the Upper Jurassic and Tertiary periods . While the valley and the adjacent slopes are mainly used for agriculture, there are extensive forest areas on the plateau, especially at the municipal boundaries. The western boundary forms the Bois Clair , the southern the Grand Bois . To the east, the municipal area extends over the Bois du Four to the Bois de Vereux . On a knoll in the Bois du Four, the highest point of Oyrières is reached at 255 m.

Neighboring municipalities of Oyrières are Écuelle and Framont in the north, Montot , Vereux and Montureux-et-Prantigny in the east, Chargey-lès-Gray and Auvet-et-la-Chapelotte in the south and Vars in the west.

history

Various finds indicate that the municipality was already populated in the Neolithic and Gallo-Roman times. Oyrières was first mentioned in 1135 when the area was donated to Theuley monastery. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . In 1569 Oyrières was sacked and sacked by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken . Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since the beginning of 2008, Oyrières has been a member of the Communauté de communes des Quatre Vallées, which comprises 14 localities .

Attractions

The church of Oyrières was built in 1775 and extensively restored in the 19th century. The two lavoirs , the Fontaine-Lavoir Sud in the classic style, whose roof is supported by numerous columns, and the Lavoir Nord, both from the 19th century, are worth seeing . They once served as a well, wash house and cattle trough.
