Traitiéfontaine is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Traitiéfontaine is located at an altitude of 260 m above sea level, two kilometers southeast of Rioz and about 20 kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, north of the river valley of the Ognon , in the basin of the Ruisseau de Malgérard south of the forest heights of the Grands Bois.

The area of the municipal area of 5.92 km² covers a section of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north-west. The central part of the area is crossed from northeast to southwest by the basin of the Ruisseau de Malgérard, which provides drainage to the Ognon. This hollow is flanked by a plateau that is on average 280 m. It consists of an alternating layer of calcareous and sandy-marly layers from the upper Jurassic period . The plateau is mostly made up of arable and meadow land. On the hill east of the village, the highest point of Traitiéfontaine is reached at 331 m. To the north, the municipality extends into the forests of Le Chaillot and Bois d'Anthon (up to 325 m), which belong to the Grands Bois .

The settlement of Vieilles-Granges (265 m) in the basin of the Ruisseau de Malgérard belongs to Traitiéfontaine . Neighboring communities of Traitiéfontaine are La Malachère and the exclave Anthon of Rioz in the north, Cirey in the east, Chambornay-lès-Bellevaux and Neuvelle-lès-Cromary in the south and Rioz in the west.

history

The finds of a Burgundian burial ground indicate the early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages, Traitiéfontaine belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Fondremand held local authority, but the Bellevaux monastery also owned land in what is now the municipality. Together with Franche-Comté , Traitiéfontaine finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Traitiéfontaine is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, which comprises 33 localities . Ecclesiastically it belongs to Rioz.

With 111 inhabitants (1999), Traitiéfontaine is one of the smallest communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (179 people were still counted in 1891), the population has continued to grow steadily since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Traitiéfontaine was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. The hydropower of the Ruisseau de Malgérard was previously used to operate a mill. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. In the meantime, the place has also turned into a residential community. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Rioz to Cirey. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 19 km away. Further road connections exist with Anthon, Chambornay-lès-Bellevaux and Neuvelle-lès-Cromary.
