Le Magnoray is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Le Magnoray is located at an altitude of 339 m above sea level, about eleven kilometers south-southwest of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, in a hollow at the southern foot of the Bois du Chanois, in the hilly landscape that extends between the river valleys of the Saône in the north-west and the Ognon in the south.
The area of the 3.55 km² municipal area includes a section in the hilly area east of the Saône basin. The central part of the area is occupied by a hollow, which is an average of 340 m. It is mainly used for agriculture, but there are also larger forest areas. The hollow is flanked in the west by the heights of the Grand Bois de Mailley , on which the highest point of Le Magnoray is reached at 440 m. To the north of the village, the communal soil extends to the summit of the Bois du Chanois (up to 420 m), while the eastern boundary is marked by the Bois de la Bouloie . The area consists of an alternating layer of sandy-marly and calcareous layers from the middle Jurassic period . In the entire municipality there are no noteworthy surface running waters because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.
Neighboring municipalities of Le Magnoray are Velleguindry-et-Levrecey in the north, Échenoz-le-Sec in the east, Pennesières in the south and Mailley-et-Chazelot in the west.
history
The municipality was already populated during the Neolithic . In the Middle Ages, Le Magnoray belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the lords of Échenoz-le-Sec. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today, Le Magnoray is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Chanois, which comprises six localities . The village belongs to the parish of Échenoz-le-Sec; it does not have its own church.

After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (107 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Le Magnoray is still a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns of the Vesoul agglomeration.
The village is away from the major thoroughfares. The main access is from the N57 (Vesoul - Besançon) via Échenoz-le-Sec. Another road connection is with Mailley.
