Recologne-lès-Rioz is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Recologne-lès-Rioz is located at an altitude of 338 m above sea level, eight kilometers northwest of Rioz and about 26 kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, on a plateau in the hill country that extends between the Saône basin and the river valley of the Ognon .

The area of the 10.18 km² municipal area comprises a section of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north-west. The central part of the area is occupied by the Recologne plateau, which is an average of 350 m. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land and runs out towards the northeast in the plateau of Grand Mont (362 m). To the west, the plateau slopes down to the Saône basin with a stepped terrain. The border runs here in the Bois de Chanenot , partly on the upper edge of the plateau, partly on the slope. At 415 m, the highest point of Recologne-lès-Rioz is reached in the far southwest. To the east, the plateau is flanked by the Eguilley basin, which opens to the north to the Romaine valley. In geological terms, the plateau consists of an alternating layer of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments from the middle and upper Jurassic period , which are disturbed by several faults oriented in a south-west-north-east direction. There are no surface rivers here because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

The hamlet of Eguilley (288 m) in a hollow between the heights of Recologne and the Bois de la Forêt belongs to Recologne-lès-Rioz . Neighboring municipalities of Recologne-lès-Rioz are Maizières in the north, Fondremand in the east, Villers-Bouton in the south and Fretigney-et-Velloreille in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Recologne was part of the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . Local rulership was mainly held by the lords of Fondremand. A part also belonged to the Maizières rule. In the 16th century, the residents of Fondremand were granted freedom rights. Together with Franche-Comté , Recologne finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1964, when the previously independent Eguilley was incorporated into Recologne-lès-Rioz. Today Recologne-lès-Rioz is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, which comprises 33 localities .

Attractions

The Saint-Laurent church was largely rebuilt in 1752, including a Gothic side chapel (15th century) from the previous building. The interior includes a stucco altar by the Marca brothers (18th century), a statue of St. Lawrence (16th century) and frescoes from the 16th century. The round lavoir in Recologne, which once served as a fountain, wash house and cattle trough, was built in 1828.

population

With 249 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Recologne-lès-Rioz is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had always fluctuated between 90 and 120 in the first half of the 20th century, the population has continued to grow since the mid-1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Recologne-lès-Rioz was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Fretigney-et-Velloreille to Fondremand. Other road connections exist with Maizières and Villers-Bouton.
