Fahy-lès-Autrey is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Fahy-lès-Autrey is located at an altitude of 253 m above sea level, eleven kilometers northwest of Gray and about 39 kilometers northeast of the city of Dijon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the far west of the department, on a hill in the plateau landscape northwest of the Saône valley .

The area of the 6.20 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the slightly undulating plateau northwest of the Saône valley. The plateau lies at an average of 250 m and is mainly used for agriculture. It consists of an alternating layer of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments from the Upper Jurassic period . The area is subdivided by two valleys, in the southwest the Combe à l'Oiseau , which topographically belongs to the Soufroide catchment area, in the east the Combe à la Fourque . However, they do not show any surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. At 278 m, the highest point of Fahy-lès-Autrey is reached on a hill in the far north on the edge of the Bois de Pouilly .

Neighboring municipalities of Fahy-lès-Autrey are Pouilly-sur-Vingeanne in the north, Auvet-et-la-Chapelotte in the east, Autrey-lès-Gray in the south and Saint-Seine-sur-Vingeanne in the west.

history

Remains of a Roman traffic route testify to an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Fahy belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The lords of Vergy held local rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since the French Revolution, Fahy was a district of Autrey-lès-Gray, but was separated again in 1821 and raised to an independent municipality. Today Fahy-lès-Autrey is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Vallées, which comprises 14 villages .

Attractions

The village church of Fahy-lès-Autrey was rebuilt in 1705, with the vestibule from 1564 being included. The furnishings include the richly carved pulpit and confessional from the 18th century and a painting of Saints Cosmus and Damianus (18th century), the two village patrons.

Economy and Infrastructure

Fahy-lès-Autrey is still a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Auvet to Saint-Seine-sur-Vingeanne. Other road links exist with Pouilly-sur-Vingeanne and Autrey-lès-Gray.
