In the Middle Ages, Apremont belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The existence of the Apremont rule has been documented since the 9th century. Apremont developed into a small castle town early on. In the 12th century, the Saint-Claude Abbey established a priory that later became dependent on the Acey Monastery . A hospital was established in 1312. The Burgflecken was in 1470 by troops of the French King Louis XI. destroyed. Together with Franche-Comté , Apremont finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Apremont is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Val de Gray, which comprises 16 villages .

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Apremont was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are various local small businesses, including a construction machine construction company and a gravel works. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Gray to Broye. Further road connections exist with Mantoche and Champvans.
