history

Fleurey is mentioned as Florus Romain . The origin of the settlement was probably formed by a Benedictine priory. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . In 1569 the Duke of Zweibrücken moved into quarters in the village. When he left, Fleurey, like many other towns in the area, was pillaged and sacked by the troops. Together with Franche-Comté , Fleurey finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Fleurey was officially renamed Fleurey-lès-Lavoncourt in 1837. Today, Fleurey-lès-Lavoncourt is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières, which comprises 42 localities .

The Saint-Brice church was built in the 18th and 19th centuries. It houses a richly carved main altar from the 18th century. Near the church there is a calvaire dated 1772 and a covered fountain from 1873.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Fleurey-lès-Lavoncourt was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses, especially in the wood processing and construction industries. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Lavoncourt to Lavigney. Other road connections exist with Francourt, Villers-Vaudey and Vauconcourt-Nervezain.
