Larret is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Larret is located at an altitude of 275 m above sea level, nine kilometers east of Champlitte and about 52 kilometers northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the west of the department, in the plateau landscape between the valleys of Salon and Vannon , northwest of the Saône valley .

The area of the 5.58 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the plateau north of the Saône valley. The plateau landscape averages 260 m and has several hollows and depressions. It consists of alternating layers of calcareous and sandy-marly sediments from the middle and upper Jurassic period . Agricultural use predominates on the plateau, but there are also larger areas of forest. To the north, the municipality extends into the forests of the Bois Bleu and the Bois du Frecherot . Larret's highest point is reached on this hill at 347 m. There are no above-ground rivers in the entire area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

Larret's neighboring municipalities are Fouvent-Saint-Andoche in the north and east, Delain and Courtesoult-et-Gatey in the south and Pierrecourt in the west.

history

The Roman road from Besançon to Langres ran through the municipality . Finds of Roman coins and ceramic fragments in the Chagennerie corridor in 1815 indicate an early settlement of the area.

The place is mentioned as Larreio , Larreto , Larrato , Laray , Lare and Larrey . Nothing is known of the origin of the name. In the Middle Ages, Larret belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Fouvent. The place was plundered and pillaged by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken in 1569. Together with Franche-Comté , Larret finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Larret is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières, which comprises 42 localities .

Attractions

The single-nave church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption was rebuilt in 1836. In the cemetery there is a calvaire that was built in 1610. On the road to Argillières there is a lavoir that once served as a wash house and cattle trough.

Economy and Infrastructure

Larret is still predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside of the primary sector there are very few jobs in town. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Vaite to Chassigny . Further road connections exist with Argillières, Fouvent and Courtesoult.
