Bouhans-lès-Montbozon is a commune in the Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Bouhans-lès-Montbozon is located at an altitude of 258 m above sea level, about 18 kilometers southeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends north of the valley of the Ognon , in a hollow of the village stream Ruisseau de Bouhans, on the edge of the wooded heights of the Bois de Bouhans.

The area of ​​the 5.15 km² municipal area covers a section of the middle Ognon valley. The southeastern border runs along the Ognon, which flows here with various arches through a roughly one kilometer wide lowland to the southwest. From the course of the river, the municipal area extends northwest over the alluvial plain , which is on average at 255 m, to the valley basin of the Ruisseau de Bouhans. Further to the northwest, the terrain gradually rises to a plateau made up of limestone layers from the upper Jurassic period . It lies at around 280 m and is partly covered with arable land and meadows, partly with forest ( Bois du Franois ). A narrow strip extends into the forest heights of the Bois de Bouhans . Here, at 341 m, the highest point in Bouhans-lès-Montbozon is reached.

history

Various finds indicate that the municipality of Bouhans was already settled in the Neolithic and Gallo-Roman times. The village is mentioned in a document in 1239. In the Middle Ages, Bouhans belonged to the county of Burgundy and within it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . The ecclesiastical sovereignty lay with the chapter of Besançon. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2000 Bouhans-lès-Montbozon has been a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon, which comprises 21 localities .

Until well into the 20th century, Bouhans-lès-Montbozon was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are very few jobs in the village. In the meantime, the place has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Montbozon to Esprels . Another road connection is with Fontenois-lès-Montbozon.
