history

Finds from the Mesolithic and numerous remains from the Gallo-Roman period, which were found near Broye and Montseugny, point to a very early settlement of the municipality. Broye developed at an important crossing over the Ognon. In the Middle Ages Broye, Aubigney and Montseugny belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rulership was held by the Lords of Pesmes. Ecclesiastically, the villages belonged to the Kommende Montseugny of the Order of St. John , who already settled here in the 12th century. Together with Franche-Comté , they finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

In 1972, Broye-lès-Pesmes (1968: 270 inhabitants), Aubigney (1968: 93 inhabitants) and Montseugny (1968: 89 inhabitants) merged to form Broye-lès-Pesmes-Aubigney-Montseugny, which took its current name in 1974. Today Broye-Aubigney-Montseugny is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Val de Pesmes, which comprises 18 villages .

Attractions

The parish church of Saint-Pierre-et-Paul in Broye was built between 1754 and 1759 and has, among other things, a crucifix from the 14th century. Next to the church is the rectory, which was also built in the 18th century. In Aubigney is the Saint-Nicolas church, which was built in 1765 and houses a tomb from 1556. Remains of a former mansion have been preserved. In Montseugny is the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church, the former church of the Order of St. John. The Romanesque crypt and part of the chancel have been preserved from the original building from the 12th century , while the nave and bell tower were rebuilt from 1833 to 1835. Most of the convent buildings date from the 18th century. All three villages are characterized by numerous houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, which show the characteristic style of the Haute-Saône.
