history
In the Middle Ages, Lieffrans was part of the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . In 1276 the place came to the county of Vesoul. Together with Franche-Comté , Lieffrans finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The mining of iron ore in the surrounding area led to a strong population increase in the 18th century. The area changed in 1801 when the previously independent Lieffrans-le-Petit was incorporated into Lieffrans-le-Grand. Later the community name was changed to Lieffrans.

With 50 inhabitants (2005), Lieffrans is one of the smallest communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (122 people were still counted in 1881), the population has continued to grow steadily since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Lieffrans was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road D474, which leads from Gray via Gy to Vesoul . Further road connections exist with Neuvelle-lès-la-Charité, Le Perrenot and Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité.
