Hyet is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Hyet is located at an altitude of 295 m above sea level, six kilometers north of Rioz and about 17 kilometers south of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The street village extends in the south of the department, in a valley west of the Upper Quenoche basin, between the heights of the Grand Bois de Mailley in the west and the Bois Lajus in the east.
The area of the 6.47 km² large municipality covers a section of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the northwest. The eastern part of the area is occupied by the Hyet basin. It opens east to the Quenoche Basin. To the west, the hilly terrain rises gradually to the heights of the Bois des Rêpes , where the highest elevation of Hyet is reached at 417 m, and the Grand Bois de Mailley (up to 405 m). It shows a loose structure of arable, meadow and pasture land as well as forest. From a geological point of view, the heights consist of an alternation of calcareous and sandy-marly layers from the Upper Jurassic , while layers of the Middle Jurassic emerge in the Bois des Rêpes and the Grand Bois de Mailley. Topographically, Hyet belongs to the catchment area of the Upper Quenoche, but there is no surface running water because the rainwater seeps into the karst subsoil. There are several karst phenomena in the area, including two gouffres (grottos), namely the Creux de la Violette and the Creux-Sureau.
The La Maison-Neuve settlement (270 m) on the main road N57 in the Quenoche Valley belongs to Hyet . Neighboring municipalities of Hyet are Mailley-et-Chazelot and Pennesières in the north, Quenoche in the east, La Malachère and Rioz in the south and Trésilley and Fondremand in the west.
history
A burial ground from the Merovingian period indicates an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages, Hyet belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The barony of Fondremand held local rule over the village. Together with Franche-Comté, Hyet finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Hyet is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, which comprises 33 villages .

With 124 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Hyet is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (in 1906 there were still 143 people), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded in the last few decades.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Hyet was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. In the meantime, the place has also turned into a residential community. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main road N57 that goes from Besançon to Vesoul. Further road connections exist with Fondremand and Quenoche.
