Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité is located at an altitude of 230 m above sea level, about 30 kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the center of the department, in the Saône basin , in the wide lowland south of the Romaine , on the northwestern edge of the hilly landscape between Saône and Ognon .

The area of ​​the 4.25 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating landscape southeast of the Saône . From south-east to north-west, the area is crossed by the valley of the Romaine, which is just over a kilometer wide and an average of 225 m. The fertile alluvial soils are mainly used for agriculture. The lowland is flanked on both sides by hills made up of tertiary deposits. In the south, the community area extends into the forest of the Bois des Vaivrottes . At 251 m, the highest point in Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité is reached here.

Neighboring communities of Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité are Neuvelle-lès-la-Charité and Lieffrans in the north, Grandvelle-et-le-Perrenot in the east and Fretigney-et-Velloreille in the south and west.

history

Bourguignon is first mentioned in a document in 1156 as the property of the La Charité monastery. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with the Franche-Comté , Bourguignon finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2007, Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité has been a member of the Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy, which comprises 20 localities .

Attractions

The church of Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité was built in 1740. The rich furnishings include the carved wooden pulpit (17th century), an altar (18th century) and various grave slabs.

A stone bridge from the 19th century leads over the Romaine.

With 116 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (191 people were still counted in 1881), slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1990s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road D474, which leads from Gray via Gy to Vesoul . Other road connections exist with Fretigney-et-Velloreille, Grandvelle-et-le-Perrenot, Lieffrans and Fresne-Saint-Mamès .
