Neighboring communities of Semmadon are Oigney and Augicourt in the north, Arbecey in the east, Combeaufontaine and Gourgeon in the south and Melin in the west.

history

Semmadon was first mentioned in a document in 1157. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Faverney monastery held local rule. In 1337 the residents of Henry of Burgundy were granted freedom rights. In 1569 Semmadon was haunted by the troops of Duke Wolfgang von Pfalz-Zweibrücken , and the villagers put up a massive resistance. Together with Franche-Comté , Semmadon finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since January 2008, Semmadon has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Belles Fontaines, which comprises 10 towns .

Attractions

The church dates from the 16th century, but has been changed several times. It has a rich interior , including a pulpit from the 17th century. The chapel in neo-Gothic style was built in the 19th century.

The covered round fountain in the village square was built in 1846 and is a copy of the Confracourt fountain .

In the forest east of the village is the Grange des Charmes, which was built in 1151 as the grangie of the Cherlieu Monastery . It is classified as a monument historique and shows Romanesque components; the main part of the building fabric, however, dates from the 19th century.
