Bucey-lès-Traves is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Bucey-lès-Traves is located at an altitude of 215 m above sea level, four kilometers south of Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin and about 14 kilometers west of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, slightly elevated on the eastern edge of the Saône Valley .
The area of the 2.79 km² municipal area covers a section of the central Saône valley. The western border always runs along the Saône, which here draws a large arc extending to the south. The alluvial valley of the Saône averages 205 m and is approximately one kilometer wide. The river has been developed into a waterway, with the loop at Bucey-lès-Traves being cut off by a side canal. The river banks in the area of the village have therefore been preserved in a natural state, and the Saône forms small islands in several places.
From the course of the river, the community area extends eastward over the valley floodplain and a steep slope onto the adjacent plateau. This plateau consists of an alternating layer of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments from the upper Jurassic period . It is subdivided by several short valley niches that open towards the Saône. The fertile soils of the valley and plateau are mainly used for agriculture. In the far east, the communal soil extends into the extensive forest of the Bois des Minières. At 250 m, on a hill northeast of the village, the highest point of Bucey-lès-Traves is reached.
Neighboring municipalities of Bucey-lès-Traves are Chassey-lès-Scey in the north, Aroz in the east, Traves in the south and Ovanches in the west.
history
A Roman road ran through the municipality, remains of which are left. In the Middle Ages, Bucey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The village was under a commander of the Knights Templar. Together with Franche-Comté , Bucey-lès-Traves finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Bucey-lès-Traves is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Combes, comprising 22 villages .

With 123 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Bucey-lès-Traves is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated between 55 and 120 people.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Bucey-lès-Traves was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Scey-sur-Saône to Fretigney-et-Velloreille . Another road connection is with Pontcey.
