Cordonnet is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Cordonnet is located at an altitude of 325 m above sea level, eight kilometers west of Rioz and about 20 kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, on a plateau at the northern foot of the Côte hill .

The area of the 10.45 km² municipal area comprises a section of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north-west. The central part of the area is occupied by the Cordonnet plateau, which averages 340 m. It rises slowly to the north and reaches its culmination point on the plateau of Les Aiguilles at 381 m. The area is mainly used for agriculture. The isolated hill Côte (386 m) rises south of the village . The only surface flowing water is the Ruisseau de l'Étang du Vau , which rises southeast of the village and provides drainage over the Tounolle to the Ognon. To the west the plateau is bounded by the dry valley of Hauterive. The community area extends beyond Hauterive with a narrow tip to a broad knoll at the height of Villers-Bouton. The highest point of Cordonnet is reached here with 422 m. From a geological point of view, the area is divided by several parallel faults , so that deposits partly from the Tertiary and partly from the Middle Jurassic are present.

Cordonnet includes the hamlet of Hauterive (300 m) in the valley basin at the western foot of the Les Aiguilles plateau as well as a few individual farms. Neighboring communities of Cordonnet are Villers-Bouton and Fondremand in the north, Montarlot-lès-Rioz in the east, Chaux-la-Lotière , Étuz and Bonnevent-Velloreille in the south and Oiselay-et-Grachaux in the west.

history

The area around Cordonnet was cleared and made arable in the 14th century at the instigation of the Lords of Oiselay. In the Middle Ages, Cordonnet belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The lords of Oiselay held local rule over the village. Together with Franche-Comté , Cordonnet finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Hauterive has belonged to Cordonnet since the French Revolution . Today the village is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, which comprises 33 villages .

Attractions

The sights of Cordonnet include the chapel and two lavoirs that once served as a fountain, wash house and cattle trough.

With 142 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Cordonnet is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (212 people were still counted in 1891), slight population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Cordonnet was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area and in the Besançon agglomeration.

The place is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Oiselay-et-Grachaux to Montarlot-lès-Rioz. Other road connections exist with Villers-Bouton and Chaux-la-Lotière.
