history

Finds of tools ( flint ) from prehistoric times indicate a very early settlement of the municipality. In the Middle Ages Frasne belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . A side branch of the Counts of Burgundy had the castle of Frasne built in the 11th century, which developed into the center of a rule. Together with Franche-Comté , Frasne finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2003 Frasne-le-Château has been a member of the Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy, which comprises 20 villages .
