history

Finds of brick fragments from the Gallo-Roman period indicate an early settlement of the municipality of Vy-lès-Filain. In the Middle Ages , Vy belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The hamlet of Laine is mentioned as a donation in 1159 in a deed from the Bellevaux monastery . As a result, the Templars founded a chapel and a priory here. Vy has belonged to the Laine Templars since the 13th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed around 1800 when the previously independent municipality of Laine was merged with Vy-lès-Filain. Since 2000, Vy-lès-Filain has been a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon, comprising 21 localities .

Attractions

The village church of Vy-lès-Filain was built in the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style. The rich furnishings include the altar from the 18th century and the statue of the Holy Virgin from the 19th century. The buildings of the former Templar House in Laine now belong to an agricultural enterprise.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Vy-lès-Filain was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are very few jobs in the village. In the meantime, the place has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Loulans-Verchamp to Filain. Other road connections exist with Dampierre-sur-Linotte, Fontenois-lès-Montbozon and Authoison.
