Courcuire is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Courcuire is located at an altitude of 282 m above sea level, seven kilometers northeast of Marnay and about 19 kilometers northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, on a plateau in the southwest of the Monts de Gy , north of the Ognon valley.

The area of the 7.06 km² large municipal area comprises a section of the undulating landscape between the valley plains of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. The main part of the area is occupied by the basin of Courcuire, which averages 280 m and has a length of four kilometers and a width of around one kilometer. The basin is mainly used for agriculture. It is flanked by the wooded heights of the Monts de Gy: In the southeast the Bois de Plaimont (up to 320 m) descends to the valley level of the Ognon and in the east is the Grand Bois de Pin . To the west, the plateau is bordered by the wooded ridge of Mont Marin , on which the highest elevation of Courcuire is reached at 355 m. From a geological point of view, the terrain is made up of alternating layers of sandy, marly and calcareous layers from the Upper Jurassic and Tertiary periods . The entire area shows no surface watercourse because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

Courcuire's neighboring municipalities are Autoreille in the north, Pin in the east, Beaumotte-lès-Pin in the south and Avrigney-Virey in the west.

history

Traces of a settlement site from the Neolithic indicate a very early settlement of the area. Courcuire is first mentioned in a document in 1287. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with Franche-Comté , Courcuire finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Courcuire has been a member of the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l'Ognon, comprising 15 localities, since 2002 .

With 128 inhabitants (2005) Courcuire is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (212 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Courcuire was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Pin to Choye. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 17 km away. Further road connections exist with Brussey and Avrigney-Virey.
