Bourbévelle is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Bourbévelle is located at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, eleven kilometers north-northeast of Jussey and about 37 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the extreme north-west of the department, slightly elevated on the southern edge of the Saône valley , north of the hills of the Bois Saint-Julien forest .

The area of ​​the 5.37 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of ​​the upper Saône valley. The northern and eastern borders mostly run along the Saône, which flows here with several turns through an alluvial lowland about two kilometers wide to the southeast. The floodplain lies at an average of 225 m and is mainly used for agriculture. From the course of the river, the municipal area extends southwards over the floodplain to the adjacent plateau of Bourbévelle (280 m) and to the wooded heights of the Bois Saint-Julien . The highest point of Bourbévelle is reached here at 315 m. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the terrain consists of alternating layers of sandy-marl and calcareous sediments, which were mainly deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places shell limestone from the Triassic comes to light.

Neighboring municipalities of Bourbévelle are Jonvelle in the west and north, Montcourt and Corre in the east and Aisey-et-Richecourt and Villars-le-Pautel in the south.

history

Remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement are evidence of early settlement in the area. Bourbévelle is mentioned in a document under the names Worbecivilla , Vorbelville , Vorbéville and Borbévelle . In the Middle Ages Bourbévelle belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . It formed a fiefdom since 1152, which was subordinate to the reign of Jonvelle. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Bourbévelle is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Jusséen, which comprises 17 localities .

Attractions

The single-nave village church of Bourbévelle, which originally dates from the 13th century, was largely rebuilt in the 18th century and has rich furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries. Century. A former mill on the Saône is now used as a residential building. The lavoir, which once served as a wash house and cattle trough, dates back to the 19th century.

With 78 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Bourbévelle is one of the smallest communes in the Haute-Saône department. The population decreased throughout the 20th century (319 people were counted in 1881).

Economy and Infrastructure

Bourbévelle is still today a predominantly agricultural (agriculture, viticulture and cattle breeding) village. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Montcourt to Villars-le-Pautel. Another road connection is with Jonvelle.
