Bonnevent-Velloreille is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Bonnevent-Velloreille is located at an altitude of 265 m above sea level, about 19 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The street village extends in the south of the department, north of the valley of the Ognon in a depression at the eastern foot of the plateaus of the Monts de Gy .

The area of the 5.32 km² municipal area comprises a section of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north-west. The eastern part of the area is occupied by a depression, which is an average of 250 m and is mainly used for agriculture. The eastern border runs in a valley that shows no surface flowing water because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. Topographically it belongs to the catchment area of the Ruisseau de la Douain (right tributary of the Ognon).

To the west, the community area extends over a 60 to 80 m high step on the plateau of the Monts de Gy. Here, at 355 m, the highest point in Bonnevent-Velloreille is reached. The western boundary forms the basin of the Ruisseau de Vau Venise . In geological terms, the area consists predominantly of tertiary sediments , while in some places alternating layers of sandy-marly and calcareous layers from the Jurassic period come to light.

The double community consists of the districts Bonnevent (265 m) and Velloreille (278 m), both located at the eastern foot of the Monts de Gy. Today both districts have grown together. Neighboring communities of Bonnevent-Velloreille are Oiselay-et-Grachaux in the north, Cordonnet in the east and Montboillon in the south and west.

history

Remains of the Roman traffic route that led from Besançon to Langres and other finds point to an early inspection and settlement of the municipality. In the Middle Ages Bonnevent and Velloreille belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . In the basin of Vau Venise there was once a Benedictine priory that was dependent on the monastery in Baume-les-Messieurs . For a long time this held ecclesiastical sovereignty. The lords of Oiselay were responsible for secular rule. Together with Franche-Comté , Bonnevent and Velloreille finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

In 1807, the two communities Bonnevent and Velloreille-lès-Oiselay (1806: 260 inhabitants) merged to form the new community Bonnevent-et-Velloreille-lès-Oiselay. In the following time three name changes were made: 1881 to Bonnevent-et-Velloreille-lès-Bonnevent, 1936 again to Bonnevent-et-Velloreille-lès-Oiselay and finally in 1962 to Bonnevent-Velloreille. Today Bonnevent-Velloreille is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, which comprises 33 localities .

Attractions

Bonnevent Church was built in the 19th century in neo -Gothic style and has a statue of Saint Blaise from the Middle Ages. Other attractions include the Maison de la Tour (originally from the 15th century) and the Lavoir (around 1860).

With 378 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Bonnevent-Velloreille is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (307 people were counted in 1886), the population has continued to grow steadily since the mid-1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has doubled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Bonnevent-Velloreille was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area and in the Besançon agglomeration.

The place is away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Étuz to Fretigney-et-Velloreille . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 17 km away. Another road connection is with Chaux-la-Lotière.
