Authoison is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Authoison is located at an altitude of 270 m above sea level, about 15 kilometers south of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends north of the river valley of the Ognon , in a basin at the source of the Ruisseau d'Authoison , between the forest heights of Bois Lajus in the south and Bois de Filain in the north.
The area of the 16.02 km² municipal area comprises a section of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north-west. The main part of the area is occupied by the Authoison Basin, which is 280 m on average and around 3 km in diameter. It is mainly used for agriculture. The Ruisseau d'Authoison , which rises in the area of the village, provides drainage to the south through a narrow valley . The basin is flanked by plateau-like hills, which usually reach heights of 300 to 360 m. To the north, the municipal area extends into the forests of the Bois du Grand Buisson (350 m) and the Bois de Filain , the plateaus of which consist of limestone layers from the Middle Jurassic period . The eastern boundary is the Maniton (323 m). In the south, the basin is bordered by the heights of the Bois Lajus , which are built from limestone from the upper Jurassic period. The highest point in Authoison is reached here at 387 m.
Neighboring communities of Authoison are Échenoz-le-Sec and Filain in the north, Vy-lès-Filain and Villers-Pater in the east, Ruhans in the south and Quenoche and Pennesières in the west.
history
As early as the 11th century, Authoison formed a parish. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The dynasty of the d'Authoison family has been documented since 1174. Authoison donated this to the Bellevaux monastery in 1206 . Together with Franche-Comté, the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. After the French Revolution , Authoison, which was then still called Antoison, became the capital of its own canton for a short time in 1793. However, this was annexed to the canton of Montbozon as early as 1801. Since 2000, Authoison has been a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon, which comprises 21 localities .

With 255 inhabitants (2005), Authoison is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (432 people were counted in 1881), a slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Authoison was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now various local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Vellefaux to Beaumotte . Further road connections exist with Filain and Pennesières.
