Bard-lès-Pesmes is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Bard-lès-Pesmes is located at an altitude of 215 m above sea level, five kilometers east of Pesmes and about 30 kilometers west of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, on a plateau slightly elevated on the northern edge of the valley plain of the Ognon .

The area of ​​the 5.21 km² large municipal area includes a section of the lower Ognon Valley. The central part of the area is occupied by the Bard plateau, which is an average of 220 m. It is used for agriculture and is drained south to the Ognon by the Cassis brook . To the northwest, the community area extends over a gently sloping slope to the ridge of the Chânoy (277 m), which is made up of tertiary sediments . At 291 m in the adjacent Bois du Gâtis, the highest point of Bard-lès-Pesmes is reached.

Neighboring communities of Bard-lès-Pesmes are Chaumercenne in the north, Montagney in the east, Bresilley in the south and Malans and Pesmes in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages Bard belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the von Bard lords, whose existence has been documented since the 12th century. After their extinction, the lordship experienced various changes of ownership until it came to the Choiseul-Stainville. Together with Franche-Comté , Bard finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Bard-lès-Pesmes is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Val de Pesmes, which comprises 18 villages .

Attractions

The Saint-Ferréol-et-Ferjeux church was rebuilt in 1753 on the site of the previous medieval building. The rich furnishings include an altar from the old church, a pulpit from the 19th century and various statues from the 18th century. Two chapels were added in 1776 and 1784.

In the center there is the former Templar house (16th century), which was converted into a farm in the 18th century, a wine-growing house in the Burgundian style from the 18th century, numerous farmhouses, some of which date from the 17th century, a dovecote (19th century) as well as two fountain lavoirs , which previously served as a fountain, wash house and cattle trough.

With 145 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Bard-lès-Pesmes is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (311 people were counted in 1886), slight population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1990s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Bard-lès-Pesmes was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing, viticulture and cattle breeding). Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Chaumercenne to Ougney . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 13 km away. Another road connection is with Montagney.
