Blondefontaine is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Blondefontaine is located at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, six kilometers north-northwest of Jussey and about 35 kilometers northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the extreme northwest of the department, in the basin of the Ruisseau de la Jacquenelle north of the Mance , at the western foot of the Donnet .

The area of the municipality of 13.40 km² covers a section of the undulating landscape west of the upper Saône valley . From north to south the area is crossed by the basin of the Ruisseau de la Jacquenelle . The Ruisseau des Vaux enters the hollow at Blondefontaine . Both streams flow south through an alluvial lowland about one kilometer wide and flow into the Mance, which marks the southern border for a short distance. The floodplain lies at an average of 220 m and is mainly used for agriculture.

The valley basins are flanked in the west by the Côte Rouge (264 m), in the north by the Bois de la Voie du Haut (up to 310 m) and in the northeast by the Bois des Cornées . East of the village the slope rises relatively steeply to the wooded ridge of the Donnet , on which the highest point of Blondefontaine is reached at 373 m. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the terrain consists of alternating layers of sandy, marly and calcareous sediments, which were mainly deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). Shell limestone from the Triassic comes to light in various places .

Neighboring communities of Blondefontaine are Enfonvelle in the north, Villars-le-Pautel in the east, Raincourt and Cemboing in the south, and Barges and Melay in the west.

history

The municipality of Blondefontaine was already settled in prehistoric times. Remains of a settlement from Gallo-Roman times as well as various burial grounds were discovered. Blondefontaine belonged to the Champagne region until 1790, but the Free County of Burgundy also owned the area earlier. For a long time Blondefontaine was the center of its own small rule. Today Blondefontaine is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Jusséen, which comprises 17 villages .

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Blondefontaine was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, viticulture and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses, mainly in the wood processing and precision engineering industries. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Jussey to Fresnes-sur-Apance . There are other road connections with Barges, Melay, Enfonvelle and Villars-le-Pautel.
