history

Citey is first mentioned in a document in 1253. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . An important aristocratic family that had two castles built here named itself after Citey. Both castles were destroyed in 1595 by troops commanded by Louis de Beauvau. Together with Franche-Comté , Citey finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today, Citey is a member of the Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy, which comprises 20 localities .

Attractions

The village church of Citey was built in the 18th century. The former mill at the exit of the village in the direction of Gy, which was operated with the water from the Morte, dates from the 19th century.

With 103 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Citey is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (186 people were still counted in 1881), slight population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Citey was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is away from the larger thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Gy to Angirey. Another road connection is with Bucey-lès-Gy.
