Buffignécourt is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Buffignécourt is located at an altitude of 245 m above sea level, nine kilometers east of Jussey and about 24 kilometers northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, on a hill above the confluence of the Ruisseau de Praget in the Ruisseau de Révillon , east of the Saône valley.
The area of the 6.27 km² municipal area comprises a section in the gently undulating landscape east of the upper Saône valley . From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the alluvial lowland of the Ruisseau de Révillon , which provides drainage to the Saône. The valley level is on average 225 m and has a width of about one kilometer. The short side stream Ruisseau de Praget flows from the north near Buffignécourt . The valley is flanked on both sides by plateaus that are around 260 m. At 274 m, the highest point of Buffignécourt is reached north of the village. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the terrain consists of alternating layers of sandy-marl and calcareous sediments, which were mainly deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). The area is mainly used for agriculture, there are larger forest areas along the municipal boundaries.
The neighboring municipalities of Buffignécourt are Venisey in the north, Contréglise in the east, Amance and Baulay in the south and Montureux-lès-Baulay in the west.
history
Buffignécourt was first mentioned in a document in 1209. The place name is derived from the Germanic personal name Vulfingus and the old French word cort (farmstead). In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . Faverney monastery held local rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Buffignécourt is a member of the communal association Communauté de communes de la Saône Jolie, which comprises 16 villages .
Attractions
The village church of Buffignécourt was rebuilt in the 18th century. It has a richly carved pulpit and an altar from the 18th century. Calvaires stand at the three old entrances to the village, another made of wrought iron (18th century) is in front of the church and a stone one in front of the Mairie (parish hall). The lavoir, whose roof is supported by numerous columns, dates from the 19th century. It was once used as a wash house and cattle trough.

With 116 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Buffignécourt is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (317 people were still counted in 1881), a slight population growth was recorded again from 1975 to 1990. Since then, a downward trend has been observed again.
Economy and Infrastructure
Buffignécourt is still a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, viticulture and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Montureux-lès-Baulay to Amance. Further road connections exist with Baulay and Contréglise.
