Rosières-sur-Mance is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Rosières-sur-Mance is located at an altitude of 229 m above sea level, eight kilometers west of Jussey and about 36 kilometers northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the extreme north-west of the department, in a niche on the southern edge of the Mance valley , opposite Vernois-sur-Mance , in the eastern foothills of the Langres plateau.

The area of the 5.22 km² large municipality covers a section of the plateau of Langres west of the upper Saône valley . The northern border mostly runs along the Mance, which flows to the east through an alluvial lowland about two kilometers wide . The floodplain lies at an average of 225 m and is mainly used for agriculture. From the course of the river, the community area extends southward over the valley floodplain and a 60 to 100 m high, mostly wooded, steep slope to the adjacent high plateau, which reaches an average height of 290 m. The slope is subdivided by several troughs that open to the valley of the Mance, including the valley of the Ruisseau des Roises . At 325 m, the highest point of Rosières-sur-Mance is reached on the plateau east of the village. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the plateau consists of alternating layers of sandy-marl and calcareous sediments, which were mainly deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

Neighboring municipalities of Rosières-sur-Mance are Voisey and Barges in the north, Cemboing in the east, Saint-Marcel and Vitrey-sur-Mance in the south and Vernois-sur-Mance in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Rosières belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The Cherlieu Monastery held local rulership together with a secular ruler. In 1736 the residents were granted certain freedoms. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. With the opening of the railway line from Vesoul to Langres, the place was connected to the French railway network in 1858. Today Rosières-sur-Mance is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Jusséen, which comprises 17 localities .

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Rosières-sur-Mance was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from the departmental road from Jussey to Vitrey-sur-Mance. Another road connection is with Vernois-sur-Mance. The station has now been closed.
