Cornot is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Cornot lies at an altitude of 245 m above sea level, five kilometers west-southwest of Combeaufontaine and about 25 kilometers west of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the west of the department, in the gently undulating landscape on the plateau north of the Saône , on a slightly elevated position above the mouth of the Sorlière in the Gourgeonne .

The area of the 11.19 km² large municipal area includes a section in the area of the plateau north of the Saône valley. From north to south the area is crossed by the Gourgeonne alluvial valley , which drains the river to the Saône. The Sorlière flows from the right at Cornot. The floodplain is on average 230 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau that reaches an average height of 250 m. This plateau consists of an alternating layer of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments from the upper Jurassic period . The plateau is subdivided by various hollows that open to the Gourgeonne valley. Agricultural use predominates in the lowlands and on the plateau, but there are also larger forest areas, especially in the area of the municipal boundaries. To the west the community area extends into the Bois de Cornot (267 m), to the south to the Bois de la Combe . To the east it extends into the forest of the Grand Bois on the plateau of Combeaufontaine. At 293 m, Cornot's highest point is reached here.

The hamlet of Artaufontaine (232 m) on the eastern edge of the Gourgeonne valley belongs to Cornot . Neighboring communities of Cornot are Lavigney and Gourgeon in the north, Combeaufontaine and Confracourt in the east, Vauconcourt-Nervezain in the south and La Roche-Morey in the west.

history

Cornot is first mentioned in a document in 1160. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The Cornot area belonged to different domains: part of it was owned by the Cherlieu Monastery , while Artaufontaine was first under the Vergy family, then the Oiselay and the Magnoncourt. Together with Franche-Comté , Cornot finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Cornot is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Belles Fontaines, which comprises 10 villages .

Attractions

The village church of Cornot was built in the 18th century. The neo-Gothic Chapelle du Marmont dates from the 19th century . Other attractions include a 17th century Calvaire and a former water mill.

Only a few remains (integrated into a farm) are still visible from the former mansion. The Oratoire Saint-Come-et-Saint-Damien is located in Artaufontaine.

Economy and Infrastructure

Cornot is still today a predominantly agricultural (arable, viticulture, fruit and cattle breeding) and forestry village. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
