Vaux-le-Moncelot is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Vaux-le-Moncelot is at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, ten kilometers northeast of Gy and about 28 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the southwest of the department, in the Saône basin in the lowlands of the Jouanne.
The area of the 7.04 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating landscape southeast of the Saône . From south to north the area is crossed by the wide Jouanne , which drains the river to the Romaine . The valley is flanked by plateaus, which geologically belong to the Saône basin and are made up of tertiary deposits. They are on average at 260 m and are mainly used for agriculture. In the north, the municipality extends into the forest of the Bois de l'Henrie . Towards the southeast, the terrain rises gradually to the heights that flank the Saône basin. They consist of alternating layers of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments from the middle and upper Jurassic period . At 300 m below the Bois du Vermot, Vaux-le-Moncelot's highest point is reached.
Neighboring municipalities to Vaux-le-Moncelot are Les Bâties in the north, Fretigney-et-Velloreille in the east and Frasne-le-Château in the south and west.
history
Finds of tools and jewelery from prehistoric times in the corridors of Les Chaseaux and La Montée indicate a very early settlement of the municipality. In the Middle Ages, Vaux was part of the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . The local rule was held by the Lords of Oiselay. Vaux later developed into an independent rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. On July 25, 1832, Vaux-le-Moncelot was hit by a major fire in which 35 houses were destroyed. Since 2007, Vaux-le-Moncelot has been a member of the Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy, which comprises 20 localities . The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Frasne-le-Château.
Attractions
A mansion with two side wings dates from the 18th century. The lavoir , formerly a well, wash house and cattle trough, was built in the 19th century in the Palladian style.

With 70 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Vaux-le-Moncelot is one of the smallest communes in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (180 people were still counted in 1891), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Vaux-le-Moncelot was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Frasne-le-Château to Vezet .
