Bougnon is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Bougnon is located at an altitude of 280 m above sea level, about nine kilometers north-northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, on the plateau east of the Scyotte valley, between the Saône river valley to the west and the Vesoul basin to the east.
The area of the 9.18 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the gently undulating landscape east of the Saône valley. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the Scyotte, which drains the river into the Saône. The flood plain has a maximum width of 500 m and averages 250 m. The valley is flanked on its east side by a plateau that reaches a height of 280 m. Agricultural use predominates here. The eastern border is marked by the forest of the Bois du Chanoi . To the northeast, the municipality extends over the valley of the Ruisseau de Trépoux to the wooded crest of the Grand Bois . At 345 m, Bougnon's highest point is reached here. To the west of the Scyotte valley, the communal soil extends into the hilly landscape of the Grands Bois, which forms the transition to the Saône valley. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the terrain consists of alternating layers of sandy-marly and calcareous sediments from the lower Jurassic period (Lias).
Neighboring municipalities of Bougnon are Provenchère in the north, Auxon and Pusy-et-Épenoux in the east, Charmoille and Grattery in the south and Port-sur-Saône and Villers-sur-Port in the west.
history
Bougnon was first mentioned in a document in 1242. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with Franche-Comté , Bougnon finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The Vaurenaud homestead originally belonged to the Order of Malta. Today Bougnon is the administrative seat of the community association Communauté de communes Agir Ensemble, which comprises 13 villages .
Attractions
The village church of Saint-André von Bougnon shows Gothic style elements, but was partially rebuilt in the 18th century. Other sights include a manor house that is now used as a farm, the round fountain (1885) on the Place de la Frôterie and several other fountains.

With 545 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Bougnon is one of the smaller municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (393 people were still counted in 1881), strong population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has doubled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Bougnon was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are various local small-scale businesses, mainly in the food and construction industries. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the Vesoul agglomeration.
The place is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Vesoul to Faverney . Further road connections exist with Grattery, Port-sur-Saône, Provenchère, Pusy and Auxon.
