Neurey-lès-la-Demie is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Neurey-lès-la-Demie is located at an altitude of 342 m above sea level, about six kilometers southeast of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, on a slope exposed to the northwest in the hilly landscape that extends between the river valleys of the Saône in the northwest and Ognon in the southeast.

The area of ​​the 9.70 km ² municipal area includes a section in the hilly area south of Vesoul. The north-western border runs in a hollow that is on average 280 m. It has a width of about 1.5 kilometers and opens to the northeast to the valley of the Colombine . From the Mulde, the municipal area extends southeast over the slope of Neurey to the adjoining heights of Bois des Rêpes (up to 410 m) and Bois du Rontourey , on which, at 446 m, reaches the highest point of Neurey-lès-la-Demie becomes. In between, a saddle leads over to the Bas des Vaux plateau. With a narrow tip, the community soil extends east over the height of La Taille (405 m) to Montcuchot . The area consists of an alternating layer of sandy-marly and calcareous layers from the middle Jurassic period . In the entire municipality there are no noteworthy surface running waters because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

The hamlet of Les Angelots (370 m) on the slope east of the Bois du Rontourey belongs to Neurey-lès-la-Demie . Neurey-lès-la-Demie neighbors are Quincey in the north, Villers-le-Sec in the east, Dampierre-sur-Linotte and Filain in the south and Vallerois-Lorioz and La Demie in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages Neurey-lès-la-Demie belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Neurey-lès-la-Demie is the administrative seat of the community association Communauté de communes du Chanois, which comprises six villages .

Attractions

The three-nave village church of Neurey-lès-la-Demie was built in the 19th century. The present castle, which houses a chapel, dates from 1682. Just outside of the village is a round tower known as the Tour de Dîme.

With 328 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Neurey-lès-la-Demie is one of the smaller municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 390 and 460 people, a population decline has been recorded since the beginning of the 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Neurey-lès-la-Demie was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. The most important employer is a retirement and senior citizens' center. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the Vesoul agglomeration.

The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Quincey to Filain. Further road connections exist with La Demie and Vellefaux.
