Les Bâties is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Les Bâties is located at an altitude of 222 m above sea level, five kilometers south-southeast of Fresne-Saint-Mamès and about 32 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south-west of the department, in the Saône basin , in the Jouanne valley between the forests of Saint-Gand in the west and the Bois de l'Abbaye in the east.

The area of the 7.56 km² municipal area covers a section of the gently undulating landscape southeast of the Saône . The central part of the area is crossed from south to north by the Jouanne lowland , which drains northwards to the Romaine . The lowland is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which averages 240 m. Geologically it belongs to the Saône basin and is made up of tertiary deposits. While the valley and the adjacent areas are used for agriculture, the plateau is mostly covered with forest. In the east, the municipal area extends into the Bois de l'Abbaye , in the north into the Bois de Talmay . At 253 m, the highest point of Les Bâties is reached here.

The municipality is made up of several districts, all of which are grouped in the Jouanne valley:

  • Les Grandes Bâties
  • Les Petites Bâties
  • Le Fourneau
  • La Gatinerie

Neighboring municipalities of Les Bâties are Vezet in the north, Fretigney-et-Velloreille in the east, Vaux-le-Moncelot and Frasne-le-Château in the south and La Vernotte in the west.

history

Remnants of a cobblestone road from Roman times indicate an early inspection and probably also settlement of the municipality area. In the Middle Ages, the area of Les Bâties belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and within it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1614. At that time it was part of the Bailiwick of Gray. Together with Franche-Comté , Les Bâties finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2007, Les Bâties has been a member of the Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy, comprising 20 localities .

With 79 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Les Bâties is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (210 people were still counted in 1886), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Les Bâties was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Fresne-Saint-Mamès to Frasne-le-Château. Other road connections exist with Fretigney-et-Velloreille and La Vernotte.
