Vy-lès-Rupt is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Vy-lès-Rupt is located at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, six kilometers southwest of Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin and about 19 kilometers west of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, slightly elevated on a slope above the Ravin floodplain, north of the Saône valley , on the southern edge of the heights of the Bois de Confracourt .

The area of the 8.28 km² municipal area covers a section of the central Saône valley. The central part of the area is crossed from north to south by the valley of the Ravin. This opens below the village to the Saône valley. At Vy-lès-Rupt, the Ravin takes on the Ruisseau de la Filerie from the left , which is dammed up several times to form ponds (including the Étang de la Peste ). The valleys are flanked by plateaus with an average of 240 m. They consist of alternating layers of calcareous and sandy-marly sediments from the Upper Jurassic . To the north, the municipality extends into the forest of the Bois de Confracourt . At 266 m, Vy-lès-Rupt's highest point is reached here. In the south, the communal soil extends into the alluvial plain of the Saône, which is here at an average of 202 m. The fertile soils of the valley and plateau are mainly used for agriculture.

Neighboring communities of Vy-lès-Rupt are Confracourt in the north, Rupt-sur-Saône in the east, Fédry in the south and Grandecourt and Vauconcourt-Nervezain in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Vy belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The Lords of Rupt held local rule. The village was sacked in 1668. Together with Franche-Comté , Vy finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1806 when Grandecourt was incorporated into Vy-lès-Rupt. In 1832, however, Grandecourt became an independent municipality again. Today Vy-lès-Rupt is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Combes, which comprises 22 localities .

With 100 inhabitants (1999), Vy-lès-Rupt is one of the smallest communes in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly during the first half of the 20th century (303 people were counted in 1886), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Vy-lès-Rupt was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and fishing. The water power of the two village streams was previously used to operate several mills. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Soing to Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin . Further road connections exist with Vauconcourt-Nervezain, Confracourt and Grandecourt.
