Bonboillon is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Bonboillon is located at an altitude of 280 m above sea level, acjht kilometers northwest of Marnay and about 27 kilometers west-northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, on the plateau that extends west of the Monts de Gy .
The area of the 4.44 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating landscape between the valley plains of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 270 m. It is made up of alternating layers of sandy, marly and calcareous layers from the Upper Jurassic and Tertiary periods . The entire area shows no surface watercourses. It is mainly used for agriculture, but there are also some forest areas, including the Bois de la Féole in the west. The community area extends to the south on the hill of Mont . At 297 m, the highest elevation of Bonboillon is reached here.
Neighboring communities of Bonboillon are Cugney in the north, Tromarey in the east, Hugier in the south, Chancey in the southwest and Venère in the northwest.
history
In the Middle Ages, Bonboillon belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . The local rule was held by the Choye barony . Together with the Franche-Comté , Bonboillon finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2002 Bonboillon has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l'Ognon, which comprises 15 localities .
Attractions
The village church of Bonboillon was rebuilt in the 18th century and has a statue of St. Nicholas from the 16th century.

With 199 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Bonboillon is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (199 people were still counted in 1886), the population has continued to grow steadily since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, bonboillon was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing, viticulture and cattle breeding). Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located at the junction of the main roads D67 (Besançon - Gray ) and D12 ( Pesmes - Gy ). The village center is relieved of through traffic by a bypass. Another road connection exists with Hugier.
