history

Champvans was first mentioned in a document in 1225. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and within it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The local rule was initially held by the Vergy family, from 1450 the Vaudrey family. In 1595 a large part of the village was destroyed by the troops of Marshal Charles de Gontaut . Together with Franche-Comté , Champvans finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. With the inauguration of the railway line from Marnay to Gray in 1910, the village was connected to the French railway network. However, the line was stopped again. Today Champvans is a member of the communal association Communauté de communes du Val de Gray, which comprises 16 towns .
