Ferrières-lès-Scey is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Ferrières-lès-Scey is located at an altitude of 213 m above sea level, three kilometers east-southeast of Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin and about 11 km west of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, in a hollow on the northern edge of the Saône Valley .
The area of the 6.20 km² municipality covers a section of the central Saône valley. The southern border always runs along the Saône, which here draws an arc extending to the south. The alluvial valley of the Saône averages 207 m and is about two kilometers wide. The river has been developed into a waterway, with the loop at Ferrières being cut off by a side canal with a lock. The fertile soils of the valley floor are mainly used for agriculture.
From the course of the Saône river, the municipal area extends northwards over the floodplain to the adjacent plateau. This plateau, which rises slightly to the north, consists of an alternating layer of calcareous and sandy-marly sediments from the upper Jurassic period . It is subdivided by the valley of the Ruisseau de la Fontaine l'Hermite, which reaches the Saône lowlands at Ferrières. The plateau is covered by the extensive forest of the Forêt du Chanois . At 322 m, the highest point of Ferrières-lès-Scey is reached on a hill in this forest.
Neighboring municipalities of Ferrières-lès-Scey are Port-sur-Saône in the north, Vauchoux in the east, Chemilly and Chassey-lès-Scey in the south and Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin in the west.
history
Ferrières is mentioned for the first time in 1193. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with Franche-Comté , Ferrières finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Iron ore was mined and smelted here very early on. Today, Ferrières-lès-Scey is a member of the Communauté de communes des Combes, which comprises 22 villages .
Attractions
The local attractions include the fountain, which was built in 1829 and is flanked on one side by a portico in the neoclassical style, and a Calvaire from the 16th century. The former castle dates from the 16th century.

With 124 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Ferrières-lès-Scey is one of the small communes of the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (202 people were still counted in 1896), a slight population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Ferrières-lès-Scey was a village that was dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. Today there are some local small-scale businesses, especially a construction company. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the Vesoul area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Port-sur-Saône to Scey-sur-Saône.
