Pierrecourt is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Pierrecourt is located at an altitude of 278 m above sea level, seven kilometers northeast of Champlitte and about 56 kilometers northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the west of the department, in the plateau landscape between the valleys of Salon and Vannon , northwest of the Saône valley .

The area of the municipal area of 15.60 km² covers a section in the area of the gently undulating landscape north of the Saône valley. The plateau landscape averages 280 m and has several hollows and depressions, including the Combe d'Ambresse west of the village, which topographically belongs to the salon catchment area. The plateau consists of alternating layers of calcareous and sandy-marly sediments from the middle and upper Jurassic period . Agricultural use predominates on the plateau, but there are also larger areas of forest, especially along the municipal boundaries. To the south, the municipality extends into the Bois de Groslières , to the west to the Bois de la Belle Voie (323 m) and to the north to Trembloy (314 m). In the east, the forest heights of Mont Aubert and the Bois de l'Hospice (up to 360 m) form the boundary. To the northeast of the village is the hill of Saint-Martin, on which Pierrecourt's highest point is reached at 362 m. There are no above-ground rivers in the entire area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

In addition to several homesteads, Pierrecourt has two hamlets, namely:

  • Aumônières (262 m) in the Combe Rouge valley
  • Saint-Martin (362 m) on the hill of the same name

Pierrecourt's neighboring communities are Argillières in the north, Fouvent-Saint-Andoche and Larret in the east, Courtesoult-et-Gatey in the south and Champlitte in the west.

history

The Roman road from Besançon to Langres ran through the municipality . Finds of Roman wall foundations, coins and graves in the 19th century indicate an early settlement of the area.

The oldest modern settlement in the area is Aumônières. The Canons of Saint-Antoine founded a commander here around 1095. Pierrecourt is mentioned as Petrecuria , Pirrecort and Pierrecort . The place name is derived from the Latin personal name Petrus and the word cortem (court). In the Middle Ages Pierrecourt belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . The lords of Fouvent held local rule until 1228, when the area passed to the Vergy family and thus to the lords of Autrey and Champlitte through marriage. The place was plundered and pillaged by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken in 1569. Pierrecourt was also badly affected during the Thirty Years' War in 1636. Around 1650 the place was rebuilt in its current location. Together with Franche-Comté , Pierrecourt finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Pierrecourt is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières, which comprises 42 villages .

Attractions

The Saint-Martin church shows components from different eras. The oldest parts, especially the Gothic side chapels, date from the 14th century, while the nave was rebuilt in the 18th century. The church has a remarkable marble high altar. Ruins of the former hospital and the chapel (15th century) of the Aumônières have been preserved.

Pierrecourt is still today a predominantly agricultural (arable, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry village. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Vaite to Chassigny . Further road connections exist with Champlitte and Argillières.
