Trésilley is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Trésilley is located at an altitude of 304 m above sea level, four kilometers northwest of Rioz and about 24 kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, on a plateau between the forest heights of the Forêt de Sorans in the south and the Bois des Rêpes in the north.

The area of the 11.08 km² municipal area comprises a section of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north-west. The central part of the area is occupied by the Trésilley plateau, which is an average of 310 m. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land. Towards the southeast, the plateau sinks to the area of Rioz, to the northwest to the headwaters of the Romaine and to the southwest to the headwaters of the Tounolle. There is no above-ground running water on the plateau because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

The Trésilley plateau is flanked in the west by the height of the Bois de Chatey (399 m) and in the south by the forest tops of the Bois de la Charrière (387 m), which belong to the Forêt de Sorans area. To the north, the municipality extends with a narrow tip to the height of the Bois des Rêpes , where the highest point of Trésilley is reached at 400 m. From a geological point of view, the plateau consists of sandy-marly layers from the Upper Jurassic period , while the hills are mainly composed of limestone layers from the Middle and Upper Jurassic.

Neighboring municipalities of Trésilley are Fondremand and Hyet in the north, Rioz in the east, Montarlot-lès-Rioz in the south.

history

In Roman times, the municipality was crossed by a traffic route that led from the Rhine to the Saône. A burial ground from the Merovingian period indicates an early settlement. In the Middle Ages Trésilley belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The barony of Fondremand held local rule over the village. Together with Franche-Comté , Trésilley finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today the village is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, which comprises 33 villages .

Attractions

The village church of Trésilley was built in the 19th century and has furniture in the neo-Gothic style . The mairie (parish hall) dates from 1839 and the round fountain on the village square from 1838.

With 221 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Trésilley is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (233 people were counted in 1886), the population has continued to grow steadily since the early 1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has doubled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Trésilley was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Rioz to Fondremand. Other road connections exist with La Malachère and Montarlot-lès-Rioz.
