Bouhans-et-Feurg is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Bouhans-et-Feurg is located at an altitude of 209 m above sea level, seven kilometers northwest of Gray and about 40 kilometers northeast of the city of Dijon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the far west of the department, in the plateau landscape northwest of the Saône valley , in the valley of the Soufroide.
The area of the 9.75 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the plateau northwest of the Saône valley. From northwest to southeast, the area is crossed by the Soufroide, which provides drainage to the Saône. The valley low lies at an average of 205 m and has a width of around 500 meters. It is sunk approximately 20 to 30 m deep into the surrounding plateau.
The plateau consists of alternating layers of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments from the Upper Jurassic and the Tertiary . It is subdivided by various hollows that open up to the Soufroide valley. Agricultural use predominates on the plateau. At 247 m, the highest point of Bouhans-et-Feurg is reached at the height northeast of the village. In the far north-east, Bouhans-et-Feurg has a share in the wooded area of the Bois de Lalleau . To the southwest the community area extends into the forest of the Pied du Mont (245 m).
The double community consists of the villages Bouhans (209 m) and Feurg (203 m), both in the Soufroide valley. Neighboring municipalities of Bouhans-et-Feurg are Auvet-et-la-Chapelotte in the north, Chargey-lès-Gray and Nantilly in the east, Poyans in the south and Autrey-lès-Gray in the west.
history
The community area was already settled in prehistoric times, as evidenced by a Bronze Age grave and remains of a Roman traffic route. Bouhans was first mentioned in a document in 638 when it was donated to the Bèze monastery. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . Secular rule was held by the Bèze monastery from 1142 to 1790. Together with Franche-Comté , Bouhans finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1806, Bouhans and Feurg merged to form today's dual community. Since 2008 Bouhans-et-Feurg has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Vallées, which comprises 14 localities .
Attractions
The village church of Bouhans was built in the 19th century in neo -Gothic style and has important paintings from the 17th century.
The lavoir , whose roof is supported by numerous columns, dates from the 19th century . It was once used as a wash house and cattle trough.
Feurg church was rebuilt in the 18th century, with the Gothic porch being retained. The furnishings include altars from the 18th century and statues of St. Anne and Mary (15th and 16th centuries).
Also in Feurg are the remains of a manor house from the 18th century.

With 239 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Bouhans-et-Feurg is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (383 people were still counted in 1881), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Bouhans-et-Feurg was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses, including a sawmill. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Gray to Fontaine-Française . Another road connection is with Poyans.
