Combeaufontaine is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It is the capital of the canton of Combeaufontaine in the arrondissement of Vesoul .

geography

Combeaufontaine is located at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, twelve kilometers west of Port-sur-Saône and about 22 kilometers west-northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The former street line village extends in the west of the department, in the gently undulating landscape on the plateau west of the Saône , in a valley basin in the headwaters of the Ravin.

The area of the 12.19 km² municipal area covers a section in the area of the plateau west of the Saône valley. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley basin of the Ravin, which rises here and provides drainage to the south to the Saône. This basin is flanked by the plateau of Combeaufontaine, which reaches an average height of 280 m. Agricultural use predominates in the lowlands and on the plateau, but there are also larger forest areas, especially in the area of the municipal boundaries. The forest heights of the Bois de Confracourt (up to 320 m) and the Bois de la Chaille (306 m) extend south of the village . In the south-west is the Bois du Moutrot , in the west the Bois du Champ-Ramey (318 m) and in the north the Bois le Chanoi . To the northeast, the community area extends to the height of the Chatey forest , where the highest point in Combeaufontaine is reached at 332 m.

In geological terms, Combeaufontaine is located in a transition area. The southern part consists of alternating layers of calcareous and sandy-marly sediments from the Upper Jurassic , while older layers of the Middle Jurassic emerge in the north. The area is divided by several north-south trending faults.

Neighboring municipalities of Combeaufontaine are Semmadon and Arbecey in the north, La Neuvelle-lès-Scey in the east, Confracourt in the south and Cornot and Gourgeon in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Combeaufontaine belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The place was the center of a rule half of which was subordinate to the prior of Moutherot and the prior of Morey. Together with Franche-Comté , Combeaufontaine finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In the years 1814 and 1815 the place was hit by passing troops. Today Combeaufontaine is the administrative seat of the community association Communauté de communes des Belles Fontaines comprising 10 villages .

Economy and Infrastructure

For a long time, Combeaufontaine was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. The water power of the Ravin was previously used to operate a mill. Today there are various local small businesses, mainly in the precision mechanics, construction, agricultural machinery and wood processing industries. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N19, which leads from Vesoul to Langres . Other road links exist with Gray , Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin , Faverney and Jussey .
