Vandelans is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Vandelans is located at an altitude of 235 m above sea level, eight kilometers southeast of Rioz and about 20 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department in the broad valley of the Ognon between the wooded heights of Bois du Fays in the south and Bois de Bellevaux in the north.
The area of the 3.08 km² municipal area covers a section of the middle Ognon valley. The southern border mostly runs along the Ognon. This flows here with large meanders through an alluvial plain that is one to two kilometers wide and an average of 230 m. From the course of the river, the community area extends northward over the valley floor to the adjacent plateau. This consists of limestone layers from the Upper Jurassic period . It is mostly made up of arable and meadow land. At 272 m, the highest point of Vandelans is reached on a hill north of the village.
Neighboring communities of Vandelans are Beaumotte-Aubertans in the north, Rigney in the east and south and Cirey in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Vandelans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . A noble family that bore the village name is mentioned in the 13th century. Together with Franche-Comté , Vandelans finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Vandelans is a member of the communal association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, which comprises 33 villages .

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Vandelans was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Cirey to Rigney. Another road connection exists with Beaumotte-Aubertans.
