Autrey-lès-Cerre is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Autrey-lès-Cerre is located at an altitude of 362 m above sea level, nine kilometers northwest of Villersexel and about 14 kilometers east of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, at an altitude between the valleys of Ruisseau de l'Étang and Lauzin.
The area of the 5.48 km² large municipality covers a section in the undulating landscape between the basin of Vesoul in the west and the plain of Lure in the east. The central part of the area is occupied by the height of Autrey. It forms a wide saddle flanked to the north by Mont Moiran (418 m), to the south by Mont d'Autrey (at 426 m the highest elevation of Autrey-lès-Cerre) and the forest heights of the Chanoi (408 m). To the west, the municipal area extends into the headwaters and the basin of the Ruisseau de l'Étang . In the northeast, the municipality extends into the lowlands of the Ruisseau de la Corvée d'Agrey . These hollows and the height of Autrey are used for agriculture. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the troughs consist of alternating layers of sandy-marl and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). The heights are made up of a resistant layer of limestone from the middle Jurassic period .
Neighboring communities of Autrey-lès-Cerre are Liévans in the north, Montjustin-et-Velotte in the east, Borey and Cerre-lès-Noroy in the south and Noroy-le-Bourg in the west.
history
Autrey is mentioned for the first time in 1211. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Autrey-lès-Cerre is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Grands Bois, which comprises 12 localities .
Attractions
The village church of Autrey-lès-Cerre was rebuilt in 1847. The roofed lavoir, which once served as a wash house and cattle trough, also dates from the 19th century.

With 234 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Autrey-lès-Cerre is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (280 people were still counted in 1881), population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has doubled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Autrey-lès-Cerre was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration of Vesoul.
The place is away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Noroy-le-Bourg to Villersexel. Further road connections exist with Cerre-lès-Noroy and Liévans.
