The village was dependent on Gray, but the Corneux monastery also owned goods and properties in Velet. In 1363 the village was destroyed by the Grandes Compagnies under the French King John II . Together with Franche-Comté , Velet finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Ecclesiastically, the village always belonged to the parish Gray-la-Ville. Today, Velet is a member of the communal association Communauté de communes du Val de Gray, which comprises 16 villages .
