Mairie Colombier |
Colombier is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Colombier is located at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, about seven kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, in a hilly landscape in the valley of the Durgeon .
The area of the 13.91 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the plain of Lure. From northeast to southwest the area is crossed by the valley of the Durgeon, which provides drainage to the Saône . The brook flows here with several turns through an approximately one kilometer wide flood plain, which averages 225 m.
The valley is flanked on both sides by heights, which are divided by short side valleys of the Durgeon. To the southeast, the community soil extends over a steep slope to the high plateau of Montcey and the Côte Rouge . At 375 m, Colombier's highest point is reached here. To the east of the village rises the promontory of the Montaigu ruin (318 m). In the northwest, the Durgeon valley is bordered by the heights of Fanicamp (354 m) and Rochotte . This is followed in the north by the peaks of Tourteret and Gros Boisson (up to 350 m). The north-western border is marked by the Ruisseau des Vénards . In the extreme northeast, Colombier has a share in the Saulx basin. The valley areas are predominantly used for agriculture, while on the heights there is a loose structure of meadow and forest.
While calcareous and sandy-marl-like sediments from the lower Jurassic period (Lias) emerge on the lower slope around Colombier , the mountain ranges consist of resistant limestone from the middle Jurassic period.
The hamlets of Villerpoz (254 m) at the northern foot of the Côte Rouge and Les Brûleux (248 m) in a northern side valley of the Durgeon belong to Colombier . Colombier's neighboring municipalities are Flagy , Vellefrie and La Villeneuve-Bellenoye-et-la-Maize in the north, Saulx in the east, Montcey and Comberjon in the south and Coulevon and Villeparois in the west.
history
The municipality was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by traces of a settlement on the heights west of the village. In the Middle Ages, Colombier belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The local rule was held by the lords of Montaigu, who were directly under the Free County. Her castle was on the ledge east of the village. The lordship of Montaigu was subordinate to the lordship de la Roche, whose castle is west of the village. Colombier formed its own parish since 1282. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. There was a change of area in 1808, when the neighboring municipality of Comberjon merged with Colombier to form Colombier-et-Comberjon. Both communities have been independent again since 1842. Today Colombier is a member of the agglomeration de Vesoul, which comprises 19 villages .
Attractions
The village church of Colombier was built in 1853 in neo -Gothic style on the foundations of the previous medieval building (13th century). The town center is characterized by various houses that show the traditional style of the Haute-Saône, including a manor house from the 17th century. On the hill east of the village are the ruins of the medieval castle of Montaigu. The Château de la Roche, which was built in the 19th century, is on an elevated position west of Colombier. Only a few remains of the medieval complex are still visible. Villerpoz Castle dates from the 18th century and was remodeled in the 19th century.

With 452 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Colombier is one of the smaller municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (747 people were counted in 1881), population growth was recorded again during the 1960s and 1970s. Since then, there has been another slight downward trend.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Colombier was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are various small and medium-sized businesses, including a large carpenter's workshop and a factory that makes wooden toys . In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the Vesoul agglomeration.
The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main N57 road from Vesoul to Remiremont . Further road connections exist with Montcey and La Villeneuve. Colombier had a train station on the Paris – Mulhouse line .
