The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau that reaches an average height of 260 m. history

Francourt is mentioned as Franconcourt . The place name is derived from the Germanic personal name Franco and the old French word cortem (court). In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was always held by the lords of Fouvent . The place was plundered and pillaged by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken in 1569. Together with Franche-Comté , Francourt finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In April / May 1918 the Franco-German front was at Francourt. Evidently (soldier's letter) an ammunition depot was blown up there on May 2, 1918. Today Francourt is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières, which comprises 42 towns .

The single-nave village church of Francourt was built in 1761 and the bell tower was added between 1858 and 1859. The furnishings include a Louis XVI style pulpit and an 18th century altarpiece.
