history
The municipality is crossed by the Roman road that led from Besançon to Langres. In the Middle Ages, Vellemoz belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rulership was always held by the lords of Igny. In 1584 the Lords of Oiselay initiated a process to incorporate Vellemoz into their rule, but this ended unsuccessfully. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2007, Vellemoz has been a member of the Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy, which comprises 20 localities . The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the Igny parish.
Attractions
The covered lavoir, which once served as a wash house and cattle trough, was built in the 19th century. In front of it there is a fountain with a statue. The mill, which was powered by the water from the Petite Morte, originally dates back to the 13th century, but was rebuilt in the 19th century.

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Vellemoz was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Gray to La Chapelle-Saint-Quillain. There are other road connections with Igny and Sainte-Reine.
