Confracourt is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Confracourt is located at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, five kilometers south of Combeaufontaine and about 22 kilometers west of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the west of the department, in the gently undulating landscape northwest of the Saône Valley , in the valley of the Ravin on the western edge of the Bois de Confracourt .
The area of the municipal area of 19.69 km² covers a section in the area of the plateau north of the Saône valley. From north to south, the area is crossed by the Ravin alluvial valley , which drains the river into the Saône. The flood plain is on average 220 m and has a maximum width of 500 m. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau that reaches an average height of 250 m. This plateau consists of an alternating layer of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments from the upper Jurassic period . The plateau is divided by various hollows that open to the valley of the Ravin. Agricultural use is predominant in the valley and on the plateau.
There are larger forest areas above all in the area of the municipal boundaries. In the southwest the area extends into the Bois de Vauconcourt , in the west in the Bois de la Bellarde and in the north in the Bois du Louvenois (up to 270 m). East of the Ravintal extends the large wooded area of the Bois de Confracourt (in the Bois de la Régie 322 m), in which the valley of the Ruisseau de Charbonniers is located. In the far east, Confracourt has a share in the hills of the Bois du Prince de Bauffremont . The highest elevation of Confracourt is reached here at 337 m.
Neighboring municipalities of Confracourt are Combeaufontaine and La Neuvelle-lès-Scey in the north, Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin and Rupt-sur-Saône in the east, Vy-lès-Rupt in the south and Vauconcourt-Nervezain and Cornot in the west .
history
In the Middle Ages Confracourt belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Scey, while ecclesiastical sovereignty was exercised by the Cherlieu Monastery since 1198 . The La Charité monastery also owned numerous properties in the Confracourt area. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Confracourt is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Belles Fontaines, which comprises 10 villages .
Attractions
The Saint-Georges church was rebuilt in the 19th century in neo -Gothic style and houses a richly carved pulpit from the 17th century. The cemetery chapel also dates from the 19th century. Two Calvaires are dated to the 17th century. There is a manor house from the 15th century near the church. In the center there are numerous houses from the 19th century that show the characteristic style of the Haute-Saône. Also worth seeing is the roofed round fountain built in 1834 in a style based on antiquity on the village square. It served as a prototype for numerous other wells in the region.

With 216 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Confracourt is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (607 people were counted in 1881), slight population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Confracourt was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. The hydropower of the Ravin was previously used to operate mills. Today there are some local small businesses, mainly in the wood processing and precision engineering industries. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Combeaufontaine to Vy-lès-Rupt. Further road connections exist with Vauconcourt and Cornot.
